2010 World Expo

The World Expo is a large-scale, global, and non-commercial exhibition which aims to promote the exchange of ideas and development of the world economy, culture, science and technology. It is a unique opportunity allowing its participants – countries, cities or organizations participating with a pavilion – to promote themselves and improve their international relations. With 150 years of history, the World Expo is a mega-event comparable to the Olympic Games in size, importance, international projection and legacy for its host-city.

The World Expo 2010, held in Shanghai, was the largest in history with 5.28 square km in size, 240 participants and 73 million visitors over a 6–month period. Under the theme "Better City, Better Life", it was a great platform to demonstrate to both Chinese citizens and foreign nations the enormous progress of China's urban development in the heart of the nation's business hub of Shanghai and the economic rise of China in the 21st century.

For its well-established and exceptional track record in China, SYMA was appointed as an Official Designated Supplier and Official Recommended Supplier providing a wide range of services. In total, SYMA was responsible for projects in 16 pavilions: Hong Kong, Brazil, Monaco, Liverpool, the Swiss Cities Basel/Geneva/Zurich, Hamburg, Freiburg, Vanke Corporate Pavilion, Dusseldorf, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Central and South America Pavilion Public Areas, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Burundi and The Gambia.

With such a big role to play in the World Expo 2010, SYMA's dedication and quality services were a major contribution to the success of the whole event.

Monaco is a city-state with thousands of years of history and possesses a very unique image around the world. SYMA was responsible for translating this image to the visitors of the Shanghai World Expo and guaranteeing a smooth operation of the pavilion to the high standards that the Monaco Pavilion management team expected.

SYMA provided a turnkey solution to the Monaco Pavilion project, including the design of the 2.000sqm pavilion, construction, operations and public relations.

The Vanke Pavilion was 2,553sqm in size built in an area of 5,000sqm in the Urban Best Practice Area of the World Expo 2010.

The Corporate Pavilion of Vanke, a top Chinese property developer, aimed to increase awareness of environmental protection and also echo its pavilion's nature-related theme: "The future of an individual, a city, a country and even the earth."

The 3 largest Swiss cities - Zürich, Basel and Geneva - faced major water pollution issues over the last century and have managed to find revolutionary solutions to this problem. They decided to work together in a UBPA (Urban Best Practice Area) joint pavilion in the World Expo 2010, covering a 729sqm exhibition space, celebrating water under a common theme "Better Water – Best Urban Life".
